- Microsoft’s latest attempt to re-establish itself as a personal brand comes in the form of a clothing line. Dubbed “Softwear by Microsoft.”, Crispin Porter & Bogusky (Microsoft’s PR) feel that this will be a strong addition to the MS advertising camapign.
- Well known hip-hop star Common is the one behind the designs. The inspiration behind the designs comes from the 80’s when Microsoft and Common were both conceived.
- The clothing line debuted at a launch party in New York last week. It will start to be seen in stores (no announcement of which stores yet) on December 15th.
- This line will be on top of the select clothing items found in their Zazzle store.

- CafePress just raised $8.3M in a Series C venture funding from Sequoia Capital.
- This brings the entire funding up to $23.8M (Sequoia accounts for $22.3M of that)
- CafePress lets users design, buy and sell merchandise such as t-shirts, hats, bags, mugs, bumper stickers and they take care of the manufacturing and shipping.
- The user-generated retail site claims they have over 6.5M members trading 150M+ products @ 11M uniques a month.
- Their biggest competitor, Zazzle, just announced a break-through in the user-generated products space by introducing an automatic design to embroidery technology. They have raised twice as much money as CafePress.
- It’s very interesting to follow Sequoia Capital’s investments. They were so eager to tell the world about how Good Times Are Over. Will they be so kind to tell us when they think it’s picking up again? Probably not.
Update: We are getting word that the funding rumors are false. Sounds like another case of false citizen journalism.

- Zazzle is the marketplace that lets users create custom designed products for order or to sell them in an online store within their marketplace.
- Submit a design, logo, etc and you can have it put on anything from a stamp, t-shirts, polos, jackets to skateboards.
- Now, Zazzle and their team of 30 engineers have launched a ground breaking embroidery technology that can take your submitted design and stitch it, with little human interaction to get it right.
- The designs take about 24-48 hours to complete and cost between $10 and $20.
- Emroidery is a $47B a year industryaccording to BizBuySell. This is sure to rock the market a little once the public catches word.
- Time to order some embroidered tinyComb shirts and ditch our iron-ons I guess.
