Is Apple Secretly Working With Axiotron?

by Jason Wilk on February 3, 2009

  • Above is an image of what the Apple tablet is going to look like. It has been widely rumored that Apple would move to an entirely touch screen notebook experience, and the confirmation of their patent today confirms those claims. What’s even more interesting is that in the last few months, Steve Wozniak, Apple’s co-founder, decided to join the board of a company called Axiotron that makes the award-winning ModBook. You guessed it, the ModBook is a custom MacBook that has been entirely repurposed to become a touch screen tablet. Currently they run at an extremelly high rate of $4,998. Funny enough, the latest edition (and best yet) will be availabe in May/June, right around the same time as the next Mac keynote. Coincidence or is the next Axiotron ModBook going to be coming out of Cupertino? Many think Wozniak joined their board to oversee the operation and technology behind creating a seamless tablet computer. I’d sday it’s more than coincidence and the next keynote will be seeing the debut of the next generation of mobile computing. Here is a clip from the patent claim by Gizmodo.

[0015]As a housing for a computer device, one embodiment of the invention includes: a front shell; a back shell coupled to said front shell to produce said housing, electrical components for the computer device being internal to said housing; and a foam stiffener provided internal to said housing to substantially fill unused space internal to said housing, thereby providing stiffness to said housing.

iPhone 2 Rumors Get Some Hard Evidence

by Jason Wilk on January 29, 2009

  • Rumors of a new iPhone are getting a little warmer today as there looks to be two iPhone 2’s out in the wild. Notice the product key discovered in the new iPhone update denotes 2,1 model. According to MacRumors, “Apple uses these models numbers to distinguish between different hardware models. The original iPhone carries the model number of “iPhone 1,1″ while the 3G iPhone is labeled “iPhone 1,2″. These numbers do not change for simple storage increases and instead represent functionally different devices. Similarly, the iPod Touch was originally introduced as the “iPod 1,1″ and the most recent hardware revision was labeled “iPod2,1″. The 2,1 iPod Touch added a speaker, volume controls, microphone support and a much faster processor than the 1st generation model. This new model number can be found in the USBDeviceConfiguration.plist in an unencrypted firmware”.
  • The graph below the code represents an ad aserving graph from mobile advertising company PinchMedia. They wouldn’t show anyone the rest of their stats, but they were kind enough to show that they have served ads to 2 unique iPhones running “iPhone2,1″. Is this the nano or is this the next generation of the iPhone set to release @ the next keynote?

  • There is no need to get sad about Apple not returning to the MacWorld expo next year. The famed keynote will still live on, as Apple is too accustomed to the now ceremonial bi-yearly recap/product launch that gets the whole world buzzing. Although Steve will most likely not be the one giving future keynotes, there are some very important elements of the presentation that are important signatures with or without him. Such phrases like “One more thing” have been home to so many secret products and is expected to be heard every time. Huge white letters on a black background presenting sales figures for Apple products, and a recap of products released in the past few months including phrases “Wow” or “Bam” speak Mac. Apple without a Keynote, is like Vista without an error. Look at the products that have been launched since 1998 at Keynotes:
  • Here are the products that launched at the end of the Keynote with the phrase “One more thing…”
    • The AirPort base station and Airport card after the iBook was introduced in Macworld Expo 1999.
    • The PowerBook G4.
    • The PowerMac G5
    • The fifth generation iPod with video, announced at a press conference self-referentially titled “One more thing…”.
    • The MacBook Pro
    • A 2006 keynote saw three, “One more things…” The introduction of selling movies on the iTunes Store in September 2006, followed by Apple TV, followed by a John Mayer peformance.
    • Introduction of Safari for Windows Beta.
    • The iPod touch
    • The wireless version of the iTunes Store on the iPod touch and iPhone.
    • The Safari 3 Browser was shown running on Windows XP.
    • The new Macbook was introduced in October 2008 after the new Macbook Pro was introduced.

Some are already saying Apple is planning their next Keynote and that it’s going to be at CES.

Microsoft 7 Beta Goes Live At CES, Full Screenshots

by Jason Wilk on January 7, 2009

ballmer
  • Steve Ballmer just wrapped up his Keynote in Las Vegas at the annual Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas. Big news out, Windows 7 Beta is now out and available for public upgrade. Steve seemed excited about the possibilities including revamped applications like Photos, social integration with Windows Live/Facebook, clean UI and home media integration. WinMo was discussed briefly, mentioning 20 million phones over the last 12 months have been sold by partners using the Microsoft OS. Here are screenshots of hopefully everything you’d want to see from the new Windows 7 thanks to Windows7News. You can download it here, but Microsoft is only allowing the first 2.5 million downloaders to try it out. Don’t forget to read that it expires in August.

  • Home screen. Nothing spectacular, looks similar to Vista with the living applications on the desktop and analog clock. Notice the cleaned up, translucent navigation bar.

windows-7

  • Revamped MyComputer center with Frequent and Recent documents.

windows-7

  • Windows will finally make home networking much easier from the computer.

  • Windows startup menu. Nothing really new here, just looks nicer. I love how Paint is still an integral part.

windows-7

  • This will be the go to destination from now on in Windows to view recent documents, songs, searches, etc. Nice to finally see we’re moving in the right direction to consider the end user experience.
