- A well-connected source to Wired.com says rumors of an iPod Touch equipped with a camera and microphone are right on the money, and that Apple factories in China are already manufacturing it. If iPod Touches with cameras and microphones go on sale “in two to three months,” the source expects them to (and which corresponds with our expected timeframe), they will transform the entertainment-oriented iPod Touch line into a voice communications tool wherever WiFi is available. In addition to these voice-over-IP capabilities, the camera would spark a revolution in high quality mobile photos and video. Or in other words, the Flip HD camera will become obsolete. Sorry Cisco.

- MacRumors reported yesterday on the iPod Video (meaning video camera enabled) coming to market in the very near future. There are already manufacturers producing cases for the item. The iPod Video will cause a revolution in the consumer video market. The Flip Mino HD got us rolling with their $229 high-def camera, however it can neither play music, make a phone call, download games and upload content via wi-fi. Sorry Cisco. Their have been over 220M iPods sold to date, imagine a day when there are over 220M iPods equipped with video cameras. It will be mayhem and probably more detrimental to our lives than good (everyone will be James Bond, although I’d still prefer the lighter camera).

- As if this was surprising… Vogue interviewed Melinda Gates this week about her life as a philanthropist and queen of the Microsoft mafia. Of the many things discussed, Apple products. She says: “There are very few things that are on the banned list in our household. But iPods and iPhones are two things we don’t get for our kids.” Gates does admit to being swayed — a little— by Apple’s smartphone, though: “Every now and then I look at my friends and say ‘Ooh, I wouldn’t mind having that iPhone’.” Good to see the Gates raising their kids on Microsoft. They are one of the few families I’ve heard of in the past 2 years who’s kids are not using Apple products. If one needs to think about who will be reigning the personal computing market in the next decade, look no further than which devices high school and college kids are using.

- Rumors of a new iPhone are getting a little warmer today as there looks to be two iPhone 2’s out in the wild. Notice the product key discovered in the new iPhone update denotes 2,1 model. According to MacRumors, “Apple uses these models numbers to distinguish between different hardware models. The original iPhone carries the model number of “iPhone 1,1″ while the 3G iPhone is labeled “iPhone 1,2″. These numbers do not change for simple storage increases and instead represent functionally different devices. Similarly, the iPod Touch was originally introduced as the “iPod 1,1″ and the most recent hardware revision was labeled “iPod2,1″. The 2,1 iPod Touch added a speaker, volume controls, microphone support and a much faster processor than the 1st generation model. This new model number can be found in the USBDeviceConfiguration.plist in an unencrypted firmware”.
- The graph below the code represents an ad aserving graph from mobile advertising company PinchMedia. They wouldn’t show anyone the rest of their stats, but they were kind enough to show that they have served ads to 2 unique iPhones running “iPhone2,1″. Is this the nano or is this the next generation of the iPhone set to release @ the next keynote?
