- Dropbox, the file sharing service which makes it easy to sync your files across multiple computers and the web, has announced that it has reached two million registered users, just four months after reaching one million users (TC). What’s to blame? Dropbox unleashed a brand new redesign of its web interface, and new search as well as many other features recently. Keep an eye out for their iPhone app, which is coming soon.
- Dropbox was one of the finalists for TechCrunch50 one year ago. It was originally a Y Combinator all star that won a seed round based on CEO Drew Houston’s application (Read here: Dropbox’s summer 2007 application). The company, currently based in San Francisco has raised $1.5 million from Sequoia Capital.

- Self-acclaimed “Simplest [place] to share online,” drop.io, has now apparently made it even simpler with a tightening up of their homepage design.
- The new homepage hides a few unnecessary aspects in a hidden drop down menu under the file upload option.

- For 48+ hours, any attempt to access the popular BitTorrent search engines VeryCD, Mininova, isoHunt and The Pirate Bay from within China would result in being redirected to Baidu.com, the large Chinese search engine.
- The sites are no longer redirected and are now accessible.
- The hijacks came right after a move by China to ban 10 video hosting sites due to “regulations violations.” Righttttt.
- Wikipedia, YouTube and now torrent search engines have all been censored at one point in time by the Chinese government. Let’s hope this isn’t a sign of further things to come.
If you’re reading this in China, let us know if you’ve come across any other hijacks/cases of web censorship.

- Read the 7 bullet points above, and you’ll see that new beta service, VoxOx, may be worth a further look.
- The service, which hopes to be a direct competitor to Skype, was launched by startup, TelCentris, out of San Diego.
- VoxOx is supported by Mac and Window, with Ubuntu and mobile support coming soon.
Do VoxOx’s non-VOIP based services offer enough incentive to spark Skype devotee conversions?

- Like the sketchy music download service AllOfMP3 of Russia before it, MP3Count of Ukraine will sell DRM-free MP3’s for less than $0.20.
- AllOfMP3 you may remember was shut down reluctantly by the Russian Government after U.S. Gov’t pressure and a $1.65 trillion RIAA lawsuit.
Countdown to shutdown?
