Here is Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, at his commencement speech for Carnegie Mellon. And to think for my graduation I had Erin Brockovich.
A few key quotes:
“We got our news from newspapers, your generation gets it from blogs and tweets, and for those of you who don’t know, that’s not what you hear in zoos.”
“We thought ‘friend’ is a noun, you think it’s a verb.”
“You cannot plan innovation. You cannot plan invention. All you can do is try very hard to be at the right place and be ready.”
“How should you behave? Well, do things in a group. Don’t do things by yourself. Groups are stronger, groups are faster. None of us is as smart as all of us.”
“You’ll find today is the best chance you have to start being unreasonable, to demand excellence, to drive change, to make everything happen.”
Eric Schmidt, the brains behind Google for the last seven years and the man who has grown Google to $20 billion in revenue since he started may be on his way out.
Although he denied it, it is very possible that Schmidt is considering the job in Obama’s cabinet.
He has increased his public-speaking lately pressing for green-energy stimulus plans and discussing the auto industry bailout
He might be just the man for the job and if he has to decide between the future of the country or continuing to grow Google, he may just have to go with the country.
