IntenseDebate Automattic-ly Shatters Competitors’ Dreams

by John Jorgensen on September 23, 2008

  • Automattic, the company that owns Wordpress, has just acquired blog comment platform IntenseDebate for an undisclosed amount.
  • This purchase by Wordpress, the #1 blogging platform online, will expand IntenseDebate’s reach to millions of blogs — compare this to the 30,000 blogs that competitor Disqus bragged about in August.
  • Also means bad news for competitors JS-Kit and SezWho.

coComment Gets More Social

by John Jorgensen on September 11, 2008

  • coComment, a social commenting app, has added many more features and rolled out a re-design.
  • Features include: profile pages, comment ranking, groups, comment tagging, portable comment “calling cards,” and notifications.
  • Still doesn’t support importing/exporting comments (like Disqus), so all comments are hosted on their server. Many webmasters demand ownership of their comments.
  • Crowded space: competitors include Disqus, Intense Debate and SezWho.
