Cisco Wants To Eat Yammer

Cisco Buys Jabber. Now It Can Eat Yammer’s For Lunch

by Jason Wilk on September 19, 2008

  • Cisco bought Jabber this morning, an open-source IM and presence protocol used by Google Talk,  Gizmo, Twitter IM client and more.
  • This will help Cisco improve its current instant messaging service and expand capabilities of their collaboration platform
  • Weakness in enterprise services like instant messaging, collaboration and status/productivity updates have been noticed by startups in the past month.
  • Yammer, the Twitter for enterprise comes to mind in this acquisition. Cisco has noticed the weakness and will be patching the hole.
