- In what could provide an unseen lift to sinking attendance at movie theaters, Brazilian startup MovieMobz is bringing out-of-theater films back to the silver screen.
- MovieMobz, currently on 160 screens in 18 cities across Brazil, utilizes sister company Rain Network’s digital distribution network to transfer films securely to individual theaters.
- The MovieMobz online community’s 5K users propose and vote for the films they would like to see at a specified screen. Once a determined threshold is broken, the screening is booked.
- U.S. theaters are so far only 20% converted to digital and the MovieMobz model may prove a valuable source of income for theaters during off-hours.
