Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster (Apple analyst) fears the World Wide Developers Conference that Apple (AAPL) is hosting next week in San Francisco could be a “slight disappointment” to investors (Fortune). In a note to clients issued early Thursday, Munster writes that he hasn’t lost faith in Apple’s long-term plan to drive iPhone sales by adding new models, lowering prices and entering new markets. However, he just doesn’t think it will happen next week.

A comparisson of opinions (mine in red)

The Street: “Apple is widely expected to unveil a new iPhone next week” Munster: “Regardless of whether or not new iPhones are announced at WWDC. We continue to expect a mid-July launch of a family of iPhones.” Me: Apple will most definitelly wait to launch the next set of iPhones. The idea of this conference is to hype up Snow Leopard, and not to try and compete with Palm Pre noise in the mobile hardware space (expect more iPhone 3.0 announcements however). Palm will steal the show for a few weeks before Apple comes and squashes it with a July announcement at an exclusive iPhone event.

The Street: “Many investors are looking for Apple to announce a $99 iPhone and a cheaper data plan” Munster: “$149 is a more likely price point and puts the chances of AT&T (T) offering reduced data fees at about 25%” Me: Apple has been notorious for contiuing to offer products of high quality that deserve their respective price points. Remember what Cook said about the Apple moving into the netbook space? He scoffed at it. A $99 iPhone seems to go against Apple’s reputation, not to mention developers will not be supportive of tiered data plans.

Munster: Doesn’t believe Apple’s CEO will take the stage on Monday, but he has faith that Jobs will return from his medical leave, as promised, before the end of June. Me: We will see Steve Jobs at or before the next iPhone launch.

OS X Snow Leopard: Munster: Worries that the “near-final release” will have “limited wow-factor” and that the demo “may be disappointing.” Me: I agree. This may be the weakest Apple event we have seen since 2005.

Since the LeWeb Conference in Paris has finished up, many Europeans have stated how displeased they were with TechCrunch editor Mike Arrington. The controversy has stemmed from his on-stage behavior and follow up article to the conference, dicsusses the differences between European and Silicon Valley work ethic. To say the least, the conference organizer and web personality Loic Le Meur is not thrilled, and has decided to put a poll up to see whether or not Mike should be invited back next year. Somehow the poll eminates the feeling that he may not want to invite any Americans to moderate next year. Loic’s comments below:

Michael focuses on my “we know how to take quality time in Europe” and my example of a two hour lunch versus five minutes at starbucks if you are lucky. There is a huge difference between being lazy and taking time to know each other. It is one of the main cultural differences I feel everyday as I moved to Silicon Valley: every minute, every coffee, every phone call must have a point. When you call someone in Silicon Valley for anything you will likely get “why are you calling me?” often presented in the polite “how can I help you” formula that Tim Ferriss in his book the brilliant 4 hour workweek book (hilarious this was written by an american entrepreneur) gives as a hint to save time. Don’t even think about starting a conversation in Silicon Valley by “how was your week-end” or “how are your kids”, they all want you to go straight to the point and no time to lose.

Today Strike.tv launched its widely anticpated online hub of original HD quality video content from well known Hollywood creators today @ the Digital Hollywood Conference in Santa Monica, CA

They are pushing live with over 40 original mini web series with talent including many actors, producers and directors from shows like ‘The Office’, ‘SNL’, ‘The Daily Show’, ‘Californication’ and more.

BitGravity is powering the HD streaming and Episodic is providing the content delivery network.

CEO Peter Hyoguchi tells tinyComb, “content creators will retain full rights over their material, and they will be rev sharing with them once they pick up some advertisers”

They hope that this will become a launch pad for well known creators to try out new projects or distribute content that wouldn’t normally get picked up by a network.

Interestingly enough, the content will not only be syndicated to YouTube (obvious choice), but they have worked out a deal with Joost. Hmmm.

Amateur film makers will not be allowed as of yet, and even for professional creators there is still an internal voting process that goes into what will get distributed on the site.

The concept and name of the project sparked during the Hollywood Strike this past year in hopes that a site like this would be a safe haven for content creators in dire times.

Their series ‘Global Warming’ is pretty funny and includes some familiar Office and SNL characters.

A tiny exclusive.

Mr. Carville seemed uneasy about Obama’s electoral math heading into the election which is now only 7 weeks away.

Obama is slightly ahead, but he seemed skeptical as to how this will playout in the election.

Democratic voters registering to vote are outnumbering Republicans 5 to 1, this mostly due to young voters.

The young vote will be the most significant swing factor that the demographic has ever seen.

Update: College Football Live is currently #24 in the top 25 free apps in iPhone App Store. Congrats Plusmo.

Plusmo is easy widget creation, distribution and management that allowers publishers and readers alike to plug in their favorite content.

The plusmo interface as demoed on an Nokia N95 is reminiscent of Nokia’s own WidSets widget management application/platform but is not, unlike WidSets, restricted to only Symbian devices.

Their College Football Live application is a great showcase for the platform and the soon to be released iPhone app, which they demoed for us today, is especially slick and information rich.

Is there room for widgets in the low to mid-range handset group or will the increasing adoption of smartphones decrease their relevance?
