Nokia Follows In NikeID’s Footsteps: Launches Nokia Build

by David Heyerman on November 29, 2008

nokia build

  • Sick of having the same phone as everyone else?  Nokia just launched their beta site, Nokia Build, allowing users to customize the look of their 7310 series phone with stock and customizable templates.
  • I tried it for about 5 minutes, user interface very clean and easy to use….gonna stick with the iPhone though….sorry Nokia.

  • Friend View is Nokia’s experimental mobile location and micro-blogging service that also works via standard web.
  • The application uses the built-in GPS, network triangulation, or manual updates to decide where you are.
  • Once logged-in, it pinpoints you as well as all your friends who are on the service.
  • Instead of Twitter’s ‘What Are You Doing’ question, Nokia asks ‘What’s Up’.
  • I’m guessing this will roll out in Japan first as a test.
  • With Nokia as the smart phone leader, and also having the power to move this app onto every deck they manufacture, will this become an immediate threat to mobile social networks like Loopt and ever-growing Twitter?

Stickam Launches Mobile Capability

by Jason Wilk on October 13, 2008

  • After suffering a 60,000 uniques loss from July to September, Stickam is hoping to jump start itself with the addition of mobile video streaming.
  • As of today, users are able to stream videos from their mobile phones, directly to their Stickam account.
  • The capability is only available as of now with Nokia N95 and S60 series phones.
  • Stickam will now be directly competing with the likes of Qik and Flixwagen, both previously offering mobile video streaming.

What happens when a site like YouTube adds mobile streaming, will Stickam, Qik, and Flixwagen still have a chance?

  • Mobile to Web video streaming app and service, Qik, will come preloaded on the new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic (Tube).
  • Qik now makes a huge leap from geek favorite to the pre-loaded common consumer market that is oh so tightly regulated by the carriers and to a certain extent, the device makers themselves.

Good Job Nokia or Ish Don’t Think So?
