China Pwns United States In High-Speed Rail Plans
by David Heyerman on August 24, 2009

- China has released hugely ambitious plans to build out high-speed rail lines throughout the country.
- First off, they’ve devoted $300 billion in economic stimulus funds towards the project that will build 16,000 miles of new track by 2020.
- Immediately their will be 5 routes constructed, including one from Beijing to Shanghai, that will travel at top speeds of 220 mph and complete the trip in four hours. In 2012, an additional 6800 miles will be added, with 4,350 more by 2020.
- What’s even better about the whole project? 110,000 people have already been employed because of the effort.
- This, compared to California’s $10 billion plan, makes us look like we’re standing still. Let’s go US. We have some catching up to do.
