India Leaks Immense Solar Effort: 200GW by 2050
by David Heyerman on June 8, 2009

- The Hindu, a mainstream Indian newspaper happened to come across some information that points towards a national solar power plan to have 200GW by the year 2050.
- We’ve seen some pretty lofty plans thus far, but this one takes the cake considering India currently only has 3MW worth of installed solar capacity.
- Also in the plan, it described the Indian government as expecting to put $18-$22 million into the project, which implys that they’ll be necessitating billions (if not hundreds of billions) of dollars in investment.
- Phases throughout the plan include 20 GW by 2020, 100GW by 2030, and 200GW by 2050.
- Of course, this is not going to be easy, but as we move towards an increasingly populated world with exponential energy demands, you can see why gigantic clean tech efforts like this should be happening all over the world. Keep up the good work India. You guys are smart.
