Two Must Know Positve And Negative Points About The Pre

by Jason Wilk on May 28, 2009

Two positives and negatives about the Palm Pre that you’ve never heard before.

  • PLUS:
    • Plug a Pre into a Mac and it syncs, seamlessly, with Apple’s iTunes. The iTunes Store treats the Pre just as it would an iPod or an iPhone with one exception: it can’t handle old copy-protected songs.(Fortune)
    • The screen is really responsive and blends right in with the casing — awesomely executed and the capacitive touch is so damn beautiful. (BGR)
  • MINUS:
    • The Pre feels really good in your hand in terms of size and shape, but there’s a real plasticky aura about it (BGR)
    • When you try and type on the top row of keys, your finger hits the bottom part of the front piece and on top of that, you often hit multiple keys at the same time while typing. It’s actually really frustrating and doesn’t bode well for such a fantastic social communication/personal/business tool. (BGR)

BGR may be overplaying it; go to Precentral.net's forums and look for Pedro the Goat's hands-on preview.

the keypad is not perfect but compared to the typing errors of a iphone, or other touchscreen it is immensely better. the keypad alone is enough reason the pre over the competition.

I agree. Pre is going to meet and exceed expectations. People always like new things.

"Wouldn’t be caught dead with an iPhone in a business environment". It depends which part of the country you're from. An iPhone is far less embarrassing than walking in with a BB Storm, that's for sure. As far as the Pre, I think it looks pretty business (especially the back).

Wouldn't be caught dead with an iPhone in a business environment and the Blackberry OS is getting old, like the old Palm OS. So that really only leaves me hoping that the Pre and its successors will work for me inspite of the plasticky feel.
