iTunes Variable Pricing. A Deal Breaker For Consumers?

  • As we heard at the last Apple keynote, variable pricing has now been implemented at the iTunes music store. Already, most of the top 10 singles and 33 of the top 100 are going for $1.29 (DRM-free). Is this a deal breaker for consumers who can purchase the same songs on Amazon for $0.99. Check out the comparisson above of Amazon’s similar top 10 list. Notice they are still selling their songs for the original $0.99.  One thing in Apple’s corner is the 69 cent price point for less popular tracks that the labels are trying to push, but who really is going to pay attention to that? When it comes to the hits, people may just start going elsewhere.
