  • Southwest just announced that they’ve WiFi equipped one of their 540 planes and plan to have three more connected by March.
  • The service will be a satellite-to-plane system provided by Row44, as opposed to Aircell’s ground-to-plane technology.
  • To add on top of the WiFi news, Southwest has announced a partnership with Yahoo to deliver custom homepages to in-flight users of the service, which will include relevant flight information.
  • This is still just a trial as the FCC has not approved the system yet.  Once they’ve received approval along with a few more months of testing, we’ll hope to see Southwest roll out WiFi to their whole fleet.
