Asus Netbooks With Android And Now Phones?

by Jason Wilk on January 7, 2009

Johnny Shih, CEO of Asus, has announced that the company is looking at an Eee-branded phone running Android. Shih told TechRadar

the company was looking at a ‘two-pronged’ approach to simple, easy to use devices, meaning a device that can be “put in the pocket, play MP3s, offer GPS services, works like a PDA and offers Mobile TV altogether,”

Last week we took a look at an unofficial Android powered Asus netbook. It was proof that Android can be a widely deployed operating system. John Shih said they would consider using it for both devices. Having an Android powered phone combined with an Android powered computer would be the closest thing to having the ubiquitous experience of Mac + iPhone. With the popularity of Asus netbooks, an Asus phone could be the next great one-two punch. The above picture is a phone from 2007 that Asus demoed as a possibility; The Aura. Should Asus bother getting into the phone market?
