Yahoo Lauches Search Assist For Photos. Mildly Impressive

by Jason Wilk on December 3, 2008

  • Yahoo launches its latest addition to search technology by introducing photo thumbnail reccomendations for image search.
  • Why is this important? Because with the evergrowing database of images growing, conflicting results has become a problem. For example, when I search ‘Yahoo’, it may show me images of the company logo, or a bunch of people having a great time at a party. The image reccomendation will allow me to break my search down by selecting the correct photo type.
  • Yahoo is still in this search game for the long haul. This is their second major improvement since they began offering ‘real-time’ keyword reccomendations when beginning to type in a query.
  • Unofrtunately, Yahoo image search has never done a good job of returning enough images. This technology may help, but it still lacks the indexing capilities that Google offers. Overall, I’m mildly impressed. TC
