Facebook’s New App Verification System And Revenue Model

  • Third party applications available in the Facebook App Store will be segmented into “Great Apps” (these are major apps such as iLike), “Verified Apps” (Facebook inspected and appproved), and then the rest.
  • To apply to be verified, developers must pay a $375 fee. They are expecting around 10% of the current 48K apps to be ‘verified’, which would be an extra $18M in incremental revenue to Facebook. Yay! More Servers!
  • This will certainly help lift up apps hidden under the pile of garbage offerings found in the Facebook community.
