AT&T’s Terrible New High End Offering

  • AT&T’s high end fiber-optics offering, U-verse, is increasing its maximum download speeds from 10 Mbps to 18 Mbps.
  • The cost will be about $65 a month and comes with free WiFi at AT&T hotspots, including the 3,000 it just added with its Wayport acquisition.
  • This is an embarrassing offering however, as Verizon’s FiOS (their fiber-to-home offering) downloads at 50 Mbps and is close to the same price. AT&T doesn’t have to directly compete with them yet since FiOS is only available in limited areas.
  • I’m on FiOS right now.

  • 18 Mbps wow...but not every place can take this service, like my place.
