  • Netflix opened up its new Silverlight-based streaming movie player for Macs yesterday, allowing subscribers to opt in to the service
  • The service is available for $9 a month and includes access to 12,000 movie titles. (Free if you already have a Netflix account)
  • Current problems known?:
    • Fullscreen mode doesn’t work on a second display. So, don’t try hooking up your computer to the TV like you normally would with Hulu or Torrent downloads.
    • Only works on intel based Macs.
    • HD movies are not avilable yet.
    • Sluggish at times depending on which movie you watch.
  • All in all a pretty decent offering. But as a widely expected service coming out of NetFlix, I don’t think it lives up to the hype.
  • One of our readers, Eric, seems to have only encountered a couple small glitches with Mac. I had none at all.

  • Just for clarification, this has been available for PC for a while, the real news here is that it's now available for Mac. I watched "Walk Hard" last night and during the full length of the movie I only ran into 2 issues during the whole movie. I was still doing other work on my machine - so the connectivity issues were not unexpected.
