  • Recent social/casual game giant, Playfish, has just raised a $17 million series B round led by Accel Partners and Index Ventures
  • The company wants to expand their operation to include 4 international offices, giving them the ability to reach prominent non-US platforms.
  • Their best known games (and most profitable) are: Who Has The Biggest Brain?, Word Challenge, FriendsForSale and Bowling Buddies.
  • Competitors Zynga has raised $39M to date and SGN $20M.
  • Why so much money? Social Games have proved to be powering through the down economy. Recently it was speculated that FriendsForSale was producing $1M a month on Facebook with their affiliate offers through OfferPal Media. In addition, top 25 games in the iTunes App Store are bringing in hefty amounts of revenue and this is just the start of platform standardization.
