Congress Making Strides In Blocking The Google-Yahoo Deal

by Jason Wilk on October 5, 2008

  • Sen. Herb Kohl (D – Wisc.), chairman of the Senate Antitrust Committee is making a push to block the Google-Yahoo deal.
  • He believes Yahoo will have less incentive to compete against Google, as it will rely upon its main competitor for a significant increase in its revenue
  • Yahoo will no longer be a significant competitor in the internet advertising market, as advertisers will just go to Google for managing their ads on both Google and Yahoo search.
  • The further decline of Yahoo’s competitiveness in driving revenues away from their largest competitor will lead to a monopoly in search advertising.
  • LiveSearch will have to give away enough free airline miles to put the airlines out of business before they think they can break the Google monopoly.
