Same Book, New Face

by John Jorgensen on September 30, 2008

  • Facebook has changed the design of its homepage and updated its iPhone app,
  • Design changes are minimal and consist of moving the login bars and changing their tag line to “Facebook helps you connect and share with the people in your life.”
  • iPhone app update includes the ability to upload and tag photos from your phone, in addition quick summaries of all items on News Feed, Live Feed, Events, Notifications etc.
  • No iPhone? Use m.facebook.com, but it still doesn’t have most of the cool stuff.

I agree with David. I think that the goal was to be a better easier service for the users. It just so happens that it's not very well received. We should also take note that when facebook released the newsfeed everyone hated it. Now its a big part of the platform.
  • I do believe they care what the user thinks about the interface, however monetizing the site has been an ongoing struggle for them, so it may be blurring their vision a little.

I love that Facebook is constantly throwing their mission in your face as if they care about you maintaining relationships with friends, family, and coworkers, etc.: “Facebook helps you connect and share with the people in your life.”

Too bad they don't care if the end user actually finds their format user friendly.
