Buddhists Rejoice: Muxtape to be Reborn, Take New Form
by John Jorgensen on September 26, 2008

- Justin Ouellette, founder of Muxtape, the streaming mixtape creation site that he recently shut down, has written on the site that he is planning to re-launch as a distribution platform for indie bands.
- Ouellette said that even though he had tacit licensing agreements with the 4 major labels, that didn’t stop the RIAA from threatening him with a lawsuit that would cost him millions to fight, money that the ex-Vimeo employee didn’t have.
- With MuxTape gone, FavTape has emerged as the dominant web mixtape creation service.
- Oullette told Rolling Stone that MySpace Music’s model is out-dated, has poor navigation and won’t succeed.
- Editor: So now the RIAA is killing deals that the labels like? And how long until FavTape runs into the same problems as Muxtape?
