Tipjoy Celebrates Record Tip – $1 Million In Funding | tinyCrunch

by glu on September 24, 2008

  • Y-Combinator startup, Tipjoy, has finished Series A funding led by Betaworks believed to total around $1M.
  • Tipjoy is a micropayment system primarily targeted at bloggers and small-time content creators looking for a small kickback from the community.
  • Tippers are sent an email to the address which they tipped with and are asked to pay their outstanding tips via Paypal. Not ideal but certainly better than the iCents approach.

If internet users struggle enough to pay for professionally produced content, will they be willing to pay for content of a lesser, but perhaps more original, pedigree?

  • Tipjoy are not "Tipjar" as in "Tipjar Celebrates" as in the headline here. Tipjar LLC, in a state of suspended operations for some time, has still not received any venture funding whatsoever.
