Silver Screen Dreams, MovieMobz Is The Future Of Digitalally Distributed Cinema

by glu on September 22, 2008

  • In what could provide an unseen lift to sinking attendance at movie theaters, Brazilian startup MovieMobz is bringing out-of-theater films back to the silver screen.
  • MovieMobz, currently on 160 screens in 18 cities across Brazil, utilizes sister company Rain Network’s digital distribution network to transfer films securely to individual theaters.
  • The MovieMobz online community’s 5K users propose and vote for the films they would like to see at a specified screen.  Once a determined threshold is broken, the screening is booked.
  • U.S. theaters are so far only 20% converted to digital and the MovieMobz model may prove a valuable source of income for theaters during off-hours.
