Cisco Buys Jabber. Now It Can Eat Yammer’s For Lunch

Cisco bought Jabber this morning, an open-source IM and presence protocol used by Google Talk, Gizmo, Twitter IM client and more.
This will help Cisco improve its current instant messaging service and expand capabilities of their collaboration platform
Weakness in enterprise services like instant messaging, collaboration and status/productivity updates have been noticed by startups in the past month.
Yammer, the Twitter for enterprise comes to mind in this acquisition. Cisco has noticed the weakness and will be patching the hole.
