Cisco Acquires White-Label IM Service Jabber

  • IT giant Cisco has purchased Jabber, Inc, which provides its white-label instant messaging technology to large organizations including Sun, Adobe, and the US Department of Homeland Security.
  • The purchase will most likely supplement WebEx, the internet conferencing software company that Cisco acquired in 2007.
  • Jabber utilizes XMPP, allowing it to integrate w/ other chat services such as Facebook and GChat.
