YouTube Launches $10k Journalism Contest

by John Jorgensen on September 10, 2008

  • Yesterday, the YouTube blog announced “Project: Report,” a contest for amateur/aspiring journalists.
  • Winners get stuff from Sony VAIO and Intel, with the grand prize winner nabbing a $10,000 fellowship with the Pulitzer Center to report on a story in another country.
  • YouTube has a colorful history with reporting, and its not always bright: earlier this year they defended the right of terrorists to post propaganda videos encouraging deaths of Americans.
  • Will $10,000 be enough to really motivate people? Why not $100,000?
