Twittering the Hadron Collider Doomsday

by John Jorgensen on September 10, 2008

  • The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which is designed to smash protons together at 99.99% of the speed of light and also happens to be the world’s largest machine, has been turned on today.
  • Some are afraid that micro black holes created by the LHC’s operation could expand exponentially and devour the world.
  • On the edge of your seat? Like any good disaster, you can track the impending end of the world on Twitter: search for tags LHC, CERN and my personal favorite, #doomsday.
  • As of 9:00 am PST Wednesday the machine has been turned on if you believe Twitter, we all aren’t dead yet.
