Update 4: Google Launches Browser, Firefox Begins Nostalgia Campaign

  • Chrome is Google’s new open source web browser built with web-kit and integrated with Gears.
  • This is Google’s boldest attempt yet to eliminate the need for closed source browsers and operating systems.
  • Online applications and gadgets can be launched in their own browser window with the ability to work offline with Gears (email, messaging, chat, etc.)
  • Google will also supply an updated homepage that shows recent activity and is a big improvement from iGoogle.
  • They have built their own JavaScript engine for faster browsing and stand alone running tabs.
  • The browser is currently only available for PC

Update: Features drawing the biggest attention from users so far include faster speeds, downloads area, incognito mode (doesn’t track your history) and an intuitive homepage improved from iGoogle.

Update 2: Google Chrome according to analytics provider GetClicky, claimes that Chrome has already grabbed a 2% market share since launch.
