MyWhat? 58% Don’t Know About Social Networking

by John Jorgensen on September 3, 2008

  • 58% of adults worldwide don’t know what online social networking is according to a new report by Synovate, republished by eMarketer.
  • 36% of social network users said they were losing interest in online social networking: Japan (55%), Canada (47%), US (45%).
  • In the US, less than 30% of people with internet access participate in social networking. Brazil, Russia and Mexico are at close to 10%, presenting a good opportunity for expansive growth for major social networks.
  • Data taken from poll of over 13,000 people aged 18-65 in 17 countries. Teenagers, largest users of social networks, were left out.

What do you think this report says about the future of social networking?
