The Ethics Of Cuil’s Indexing Approach

by Jason Wilk on September 1, 2008

  • Cuil’s new indexing bot, Twiceler, has been bringing down web sites around the world.
  • The technology unleashes a large amount of bandwith to site’s it tries to index, with some web masters claiming 70,000 visits by the bot in 24 hours.
  • Cuil blames the bandwidth for use in finding pages on sites to index that aren’t accessible by links.
  • The misbehaving bot technology is receiving bad press all around the web, getting deemed ‘amateur’.

Does anyone actually use Cuil or are they still getting buzzed off their press release high?
