Microsoft Stands Up To Apple’s App Store

by Jason Wilk on September 1, 2008

  • Microsoft to launch SkyMarket, its new app store for use with their latest generation of smart phones.
  • Microsoft has 18,000 apps for it’s devices already if you count all the ones spanning the hundreds of WM marketplaces.
  • Microsoft wants to realize Apple’s vision of having one easy place to make the categorization and downloading of these apps easier.
  • Apple has seen pretty solid success thus far with it’s 2,000 App store apps, seeing over 60 million downloads thus far and $30 million in sales.

Can Microsoft pull off an app store that has the intuitive, consumer focused appeal of Apple’s App Store? Will this work for Microsoft?
