Google/Yahoo Deal

by David Heyerman on August 31, 2008

  • Eric Schmidt, Google’s CEO, announced the search firm and Yahoo will move forward on the search advertisement deal proposed in June.
  • Terms of the deal has Google search ads displaying alongside Yahoo search results.
  • Yahoo predicted the deal would net them an additional $800 million a year (compare this to the $12 billion they turned down from Microsoft).
  • Department of Justice has yet to rule on the deal. This announcement may force a response.

Is this a smart financial move for Yahoo, or does it just mean they’ll be #2 forever?
