Greenfield Online: Now Owned By Microsoft

  • Greenfield Online owns Ciao, a successful price comparison and shopping site in Europe that brings in 26.5 million unique visitors per month.
  • Microsoft outbid Quadrangle Group LLC.’s bid of $426 million, with an offering of $486 million.
  • John Mangelaars, of Microsoft, says the acquisition “makes the company a fantastic asset to the future of our search offer. Integrating Ciao’s capabilities into Live Search will provide a strong launchpad for our commercial search offer in Europe and enhance our e-commerce offering on MSN.”

What other benefits will Microsoft see with this acquisition?

GeoEye Ups Google’s Satellite Resolution

  • Google signed a deal with GeoEye to receive high-resolution satellite imagery from their satellite GeoEye-1
  • GeoEye’s spokesperson Mark Brender boasts that their new satellite provides the highest resolution satellite imagery currently available.
  • The new imagery will be available within 45-60 days.

They’re watching us, in high-resolution.  Are you scared?

Microsoft Blasts Google Privacy Policy

  • In an interview with ZDnet.com.au, Peter Cullen, Microsoft’s chief privacy strategist talked trash about Google’s privacy policies.
  • He’s quoted saying “Google’s a great company, got some great products, but you know in some respects I think Google is where Microsoft was seven or 10 years ago.”
  • Also, “Microsoft has over 40 full-time people invested in privacy and over 400 part-time people. Google hasn’t — at least from what I read about them — evolved to that.”
